Asteroid Berkekuatan Setara Bom Nuklir 

Kemungkinan Hantam Bumi pada 2032

Gambar ilustrasi di atas menunjukkan sebuah asteroid memasuki atmosfer Bumi.

Sejumlah astronom menemukan asteroid baru pekan ini. Mereka mengatakan asteroid itu berpotensi menghantam Bumi pada 26 Agustus 2032.

Asteroid 2013 TV35 ditemukan pada Sabtu, 12 Oktober 2013, oleh Gennady Borisov, dari Obervatorium Astrofisika Krimea (Crimean Astrophysical Observatory) di Ukraina. Saat itu dia sedang mengamati rasi bintang Camelopardalis untuk melihat komet.

Para astronom kemudian melacak pergerakan asteroid dengan lebar 400 meter itu selama beberapa hari. Mereka juga melihat catatan sejarah untuk mencari tahu apakah asteroid itu sudah pernah terlihat sebelumnya. Para astronom akhirnya dapat mengetahui orbit asteroid tersebut, yang berada di sekitar matahari. Benda luar angkasa itu merupakan sebuah asteroid Apollo dengan periode rotasi empat tahunan. Selama itu asteroid itu menjauh sampai keluar orbit Mars, lalu kembali menerobos orbit Bumi.

Karena Asteroid 2013 TV35 kemungkinan akan menerobos orbit Bumi, beberapa pihak menjadi waspada dan memunculkan sejumlah kekhawatiran. Asteroid itu berada 7,5 juta kilometer dari Bumi, sehingga dikategorikan sebagai “Asteroid Berpotensi Berbahaya.”

Asteroid ini berpotensi menghantam Bumi pada 26 Agustus 2032, dan juga mendapat rating satu dari 10 rating dalam daftar Torino Impact Hazard Scale (skala dampak tumbukan benda langit). Untuk saat ini, hal itu hanya berupa perkiraan karena asteroid ini merupakan sebuah temuan baru. Tidak ada tingkatan bahaya yang luar biasa dan pengamatan lebih lanjut kemungkinan akan menurunkan ratingnya menjadi nol (yang berarti tidak memiliki risiko tumbukan).

Saat ini, rasio kemungkinan asteroid menghantam bumi adalah 1 berbanding 63.000, sehingga kecil kemungkinan 2013 TV35 akan menghantam planet tempat kita tinggal. Namun, karena pengamatan hanya dilakukan selama tujuh hari, kemungkinan kesalahan penghitungan cukup besar, dan potensi hantaman asteroid pada 26 Agustus 2032 bisa jadi keliru.

Informasi mengenai orbit asteroid akan diketahui lebih pasti seiring dengan dilakukannya pengamatan yang lebih mendalam, dan nantinya kita akan mengetahui apakah asteroid ini benar-benar berbahaya bagi manusia di Bumi.

Yang menjadi kekhawatiran terbesar terkait 2013 TV35 adalah fakta bahwa asteroid ini memiliki lebar 400 meter.

Jika asteroid sebesar dan secepat 2013 TV35 menghantam Bumi, tumbukannya setara dengan bom nuklir berkekuatan 2.500 megaton. Sebagai referensi, bom nuklir terbesar yang pernah diledakkan, Tsar Bomba, hanya berkekuatan 50 megaton.(ab/wy)

Aplikasi BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) dipastikan hadir di Android dan iPhone tanpa biaya bulanan maupun tahunan, alias gratis. Langkah ini mengundang banyak pertanyaan, apakah BlackBerry akan mencari untung dari BBM di platform kompetitor? Atau, BlackBerry sengaja "bunuh diri?"

Melepas BBM ke platform lain merupakan strategi masa depan BlackBerry untuk memperkuat bisnis perangkat lunak. Perusahaan tak bisa selamanya bergantung pada bisnis perangkat kerasnya. Apalagi, pangsa pasar ponsel BlackBerry terus direbut para pesaingnya.

Meski digratiskan, BlackBerry mengaku telah merancang strategi bisnis untuk menghasilkan uang dari layanan BBM di Android dan iPhone.

Senior Director Marketing Asia Pacific BlackBerry, Krishnadeep Baruah, meyakini BBM akan meraih sukses dalam persaingan aplikasi pesan instan, karena BBM memiliki sejumlah keunggulan yang tak dimiliki aplikasi sejenis.

"Kami sudah memiliki rencana untuk menghasilkan uang dari layanan BBM di Android dan iPhone. Itu semua sudah ada di roadmap kami," kata Senior Director Marketing Asia Pacific BlackBerry Krishnadeep Baruah, dalam jumpa pers "BBM for Everyone" di Jakarta, Kamis (19/9/2013).

Namun, Baruah enggan menjelaskan secara detail strategi macam apa yang akan dijalankan BlackBerry.

Tak menutup kemungkinan, BlackBerry akan meniru langkah aplikasi pesan instan lain, seperti Line dan KakaoTalk, yang menjual stiker atau item digital lainnya.

"Kami juga akan mengembangkan BBM Video, BBM Music, dan BBM Channels untuk Android dan iPhone," tambahnya.

Pada tahap awal, BBM di Android dan iPhone memiliki fungsi standar untuk berkirim pesan teks, mengirim voice note dan video singkat, serta membuat grup diskusi. Pengguna Android dan iPhone juga dimungkinkan mengganti gambar profil atau status.

BBM untuk Android bisa diunduh di Play Store pada 21 September jam 18.00 WIB. Sementara di iPhone, BBM bisa diunduh di App Store pada 22 September jam 00.01 WIB. BBM lintas platform ini hanya dapat berjalan di perangkat yang memakai sistem operasi Android versi 4.0 ke atas dan iOS 6 ke atas.
